The Jesse Winburn Society
The Jesse Winburn Society is an organization for those who have shown their long-term interest in and support of the Foundation by either a direct contribution to the endowment fund or by including the Foundation in their estate plans. It is the commitment rather than the amount that is the basis for qualification as a Jesse Winburn Society member.
The Jesse Winburn Society is named after Ashland Community Hospital’s first benefactor, Jesse Winburn, who retired to Ashland in 1922 after living in New York City. Finding the hospital financially-beleaguered and in poor condition, he bought all the stock in the hospital, invested $30,000 to renovate the facility and donated it to the City of Ashland on January 9, 1923. Not long afterward, he left town and was never heard from again, but the spirit of his gift lives on.
The goal of the Foundation’s endowment effort is to create an endowment fund of sufficient size to support 100% of the hospital’s annual capital equipment needs. Supporting this effort helps assure a strong, viable hospital for future generations of our community. Contributors may designate a gift for a specific purpose or to the unrestricted use of the Foundation. When you give, you are helping to:
- Equip a modern and efficient health care system
- Offset uncompensated patient care costs
- Maintain a facility that provides personal and caring attention to all our patients
- Maintain a professional staff ready to meet your health care needs 24 hours a day
- Support our hospital in its effort to recruit and keep the best medical professionals available
Each year these special friends of the hospital are invited to a dinner and program to receive recognition, learn about how endowment funds are being used and enjoy an informal social occasion with others who share their vision.
