Evans Nursing Scholarships-General Information
The William G. and Ruth T. Evans Endowed Nursing Scholarships
Donors:
The Evans Nursing Scholarships have been made possible through the generous contributions of Dr. William G. Evans and Mrs. Ruth T. Evans. They were established in 2002 by Dr. and Mrs. Evans, who have a particularly keen understanding of the importance of a strong healthcare system. Dr. Evans was a family practice physician in Pennsylvania for 50 years, and Ruth was an army nurse during World War II. They moved to Ashland to be near their daughters, Margaret and Barbara. Although Dr. Evans has passed away, the scholarship endowment continues to be funded by Ruth Evans, with the assistance of her daughters.
“We thought [the scholarships] would be a good way to help young people with their education,” Ruth Evans said. “We had already established two funds through the Pittsburgh Foundation for college student scholarships and for medical professionals. We thought that limiting this scholarship to nurses would be a good idea. Nurses are quite scarce and will be needed badly in the future.”
Dr. and Mrs. Evans established this endowment fund to provide nursing scholarships in our community in perpetuity.
