ACHF Patrons Share Their Reasons for Support

Although there are many reasons Patrons support the ACH Foundation and the Hospital, one of the most common is that they believe a caring, professional medical facility is an important part of the community. Some Patrons have had experience working at the Hospital, many have been patients, and still others have simply been impressed by the consistent level of excellence exhibited by the Hospital’s administration, staff and physicians.

Dom & Joyce Provost:   “We appreciate having such a wonderful Hospital in this lovely community, and we will support it as long as we can. We’ve had many family members, at various times, cared for by the Hospital. Our son Greg was born there shortly after it was built. Our son John spent four months in the Hospital. We’ve had grandchildren born there. Dom’s uncle was a physician there, and Joyce was one of the first Auxiliary members. We’ve always had a good relationship and have appreciated everything they’ve done for us.”

Harry & Maggie Skerry:   “We’re very sentimental, we feel we own the place! Maggie, along with the help of four wonderful women (Evelyn Kreisman, Ginnie Cotton, Hazel Bosshard and Maurece Lininger) gave birth to the Hospital Auxiliary, was a part of that organization for many years, and also served on the Hospital Board for 13 years. As Ashland’s City Attorney, Harry worked terribly hard trying to get the Hospital established in Ashland…and here it is: successful, financially sound, professionally outstanding people, talent physicians, excellent care, well supported by the community because of its excellent work. The Hospital’s whole focus is on being a caring and warm establishment that cares for people in Ashland and also the region. We wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

Dick & Addie Thornton:   “We support the Hospital because it’s a worthy cause and because it uses the monies appropriately for the needs of the departments. An ACH operating nurse for 20 years, Addie believes that the Hospital is excellent. A lot of personal service is offered that the larger hospitals don’t have, and the people in the operating rooms are very caring and efficient.”

Dave & Marge Bernard:   “We love the Hospital, that’s why we do it. Marge is a nurse, and Dave’s in business and on the ACH Board. Historically, we’re tied in family-wise-we’ve had a family member on the Hospital Board or the Foundation Board for the last 15 to 20 years-and we’re interested in health care. From a business standpoint, we feel it’s very important to run the Hospital as a well-run business. Through our experiences in being patients at the Hospital, we’ve seen that it’s a very caring and loving ‘community’. To have that caring atmosphere and easy access as part of Ashland is so important. It improves the community. ACH does a beautiful job being efficient in its patient care and in its finances. Just any hospital won’t do as a recipient of our donations. ACH works really hard to keep its patients happy, and to keep employees happy so they can provide better care. That’s an efficient way to run a business.”

Chuck & Linda Butler:   “It’s a great place to spend your time and effort to make Ashland a better place to live. From Linda’s point of view, we are fortunate to have incredibly talented professionals involved in the administration of the Hospital and the Foundation. Chuck’s philosophy on becoming a Patron is that it’s a way to give back to the community; when you support the Hospital, you support the entire community, not just the rich or the poor, or the young or the old. Helping build the Foundation’s endowment fund with Patrons donations is what will make the Foundation viable for a very long period of time. You can make a short-term donation to be spent this year, but through the endowment you can make a contribution that will last into the future.”
