Sid & Barbara Field
Helping our community hospital thrive now and into the future.
After her husband Sid passed away in 2017, Barbara Field made the unusual decision to dissolve the charitable trust benefiting the Ashland Community Hospital Foundation the couple had set up in 1993. “It took some time to sort out because dissolving a trust is not common practice,” explained Barb. “I wanted the funds to be dispersed to the Foundation as soon as possible rather than waiting for my estate to settle after my passing.”
Sid Field served on the Ashland Community Hospital Foundation Board for many years and experienced the care, comfort, and compassion that are the hallmarks of Asante Ashland Community Hospital first-hand as a patient and supporter when Barb needed care over the years. “Whether for major surgery or routine tests, the staff is always so responsive to my concerns and needs,” says Barbara. “My favorite treatment has always been the offer of a warm blanket,” she confides.
Barb chose to direct their Legacy Gift to The William G. and Ruth T. Evans Endowed Nursing Scholarship and to upgrade the hospital’s Conference Room, which is used by both the hospital and community. Barb knew Sid would have approved of her decision. “These hospital projects need financial support now,” says Barb. “I’m thrilled to be able to see our gifts in action while I’m still here to enjoy our legacy!”
Now that Barb lives at the Rogue Valley Manor and is no longer a member of the Ashland community, keeping Asante Ashland Community Hospital viable is no less important. “It’s such a jewel for the community and even though I’ve moved to the Manor, I still feel like a part of it,” says Barb. “It makes me so happy to pay it forward now. And I know Sid is smiling.”
